Does your child have trouble settling or calming herself? Are nap times and bed times a battle? Does nursing resemble a wrestling match? Does he startle easily or cry for no apparent reason? Does she fuss when you put her down? Are you convinced that your baby is always going to be a "challenge?" Is your pediatrician or midwife out of suggestions? Is your patience wearing thin? Answers could be a close as our office. Why in the world should you consider having your baby's head and neck evaluated chiropractically? . . . . Think back to your labor and delivery. Even the most normal, beautiful, uncomplicated labor and vaginal delivery can be hard on a baby's head and neck. Now add in any difficulties in fetal positioning or labor, any reported fetal distress, any medical interventions such as induction, anesthesia, forceps assist, vacuum assist, or c-section, and you might start to see how your baby's head and neck could be out of balance. One of the first things we learn in chiropractic school is that when bones of the head and spine are out of balance, the result is irritation to the nervous system. In babies, this irritation of the nervous system is often seen as trouble settling or calming, struggles with rest and sleep, inability to be comfortable nursing equally on both sides, and hypersensitivity to the surrounding environment. This is a "sub-clinical" condition ~ in other words, the baby is not abnormal or suffering from a distinct disease process, but he is definitely not as well or as comfortable as he could be. Our unique, gentle, effective, no-crack spinal and cranial adjustments cause a rebalancing of the bones of the head and neck. This reduces or removes nervous system irritation, much like fine tuning a radio dial removes static from the broadcast. Baby's nervousness and fussiness often begin to disappear with the very first adjustment. In fact, many parents report "longest-ever" naps, or "best-ever" nursing within just hours of their first visit to our office.
